I like to eat. Is that a crime?

Creme Brulee CartWhy another blog about food trucks? Well, why not? It was only a handful of years ago that my friend Jenn told me about the Kogi BBQ truck down in LA. We made plans we’d never do of leaving our kids at bedtime, driving fast in her station wagon to LA to indulge then driving fast back to our kids.

Then I started hearing more and more about trucks up in Northern California. I started reading more, watching Eat Street on the Cooking Channel. I got on Twitter to follow the trucks I knew about. Then I started venturing out to the places where the trucks were near where I live. The more you know, the more you want to know. My family got dragged into it. And then my friends. My obsession has become my avocation.

So, I try, five days a week, I try to let people know where some of the food trucks are. I don’t follow everyone. I haven’t tried everyone. But I want to share in this love of food with everyone. Join in it with me.

For those new to the food truck scene, here are a few basics:

This isn’t a brick and mortar restaurant. You will not have chairs or a waiter. So bring your own chairs. Some people feel the need to bring Gramma’s china and a candelabra (you think I’m kidding?). Bring a blanket if you’re at an organized event like Amador Valley High Street Eats or OtG or Moveable Feast.

Bring cash. Try for small denominations like $5s and $1s. Most of the trucks take your plastic but some times, things fail. Always have cash.

Really love your blog…I check it in my RSS feed everyday!

One thing that would help a lot; most entries just mention street or even a place name. I’m relatively mobile and there are a lot of places I could get to. But I’m in the East Bay and it’s difficult to tell which are in SF and which are in the Oakland/Berkeley area.

For the NorCal entries, would love even to see places split into SF/East Bay/South Bay/Peninsula.

    Thanks!

Hi Chris, thanks for being a reader! I’m still a novice on where a lot of these places are myself. Some of the Tweets give me a single street name without any sort of reference to where (California Street – um SF? Mt View? You get my point) or even just a company name. I try when I can to look up where places are. I’ll try to give more info when I can. Thanks for your input!

Thanks for the recent changes! Makes it easier to read.

On a funnier note, I find it hard to describe your blog to food truck people (and others). Because they ask me what it’s called, and it always sounds like I’m saying “It’s the Food Bitches!!”

You’re pretty close to the truth! Thanks for the great laugh. You can always say my blog is about food and philosophy and hopefully, a positive moment in an otherwise meh day.

Hi there! They do get over there but not frequently. Havana Dave’s I believe is one. I see the trucks I follow on Twitter will head over for events like the art and wine festival (there were about five at the Livermore Wine Festival). Pleasanton has a weekly event for dinners that occasionally the trucks will advertise about on Twitter. I try to put them on my blog when they do. Sorry I can’t give you more info.
